THFTH VOLUNTEER INFORMATION
SIGN PLACEMENT: Place signs in designated spots a few days prior to our distribution day, the 4th Monday of each month. Might require working on unlevel or hard ground. Collect signs following event. Team Leader: LuRae Ahrendt.
SET-UP/TAKE DOWN: We set up on Sunday, (prior to our distribution on Monday), following church service. Requires moving and lifting tables and chairs, wiping table tops and placing needed items on tables i.e., hand sanitizer, tissue, pens, etc. If Trinity activity prevents setting up on Sunday, we would meet at 8:00 on distribution Monday to set up. Return all tables, chairs and supplies at end of day (1:00PM). Team Leaders: Penny & Kevin Beatty
GREETER: Doors open at 9:45. _Welcome clients at front entrance of church and direct them to sign-in area. Provide assistance to anyone with mobility problems and offer water or coffee from Holy Grounds area off narthex. You can also engage clients waiting in registration in conversation if you would enjoy that. Front door greeters work in pairs. In cold weather you may stand inside and may sit when no clients. CLIENT SIGN-IN: Two volunteers greet and assist clients in completing sign-in sheet then provide a number on a Post-it note as to place in line. Then, direct to registration waiting area. This is an important position as you are the first people to engage them in conversation. Requires standing most of day. Team Leader: Steve Bechtel
CLIENT REGISTRATION: Team of volunteers sits with clients to complete application forms and provide resource materials. Will then direct to waiting area to wait for counselor. Team leader is present to assist. Team Leader: Kay Bechtel
DONATED FOOD DISTRIBUTION: Shopper :Assist clients in choosing food, personal hygiene items, etc., donated by Trinity members and friends, after checking for orange food ticket held by client. Runner: Will accompany shopper, taking filled bags to client's car when shopping completed. This requires holding and walking with a number of filled bags. Need strong arms and good back. You might want to just help with restocking racks which does not require heavy lifting. Volunteers handling pet food in the parking lot may need assistance from a Runner to place food in the client's car. (Pet food area is not part of THFTH funding. Items are donated by Big Canoe Animal Rescue.) You can volunteer to work in distributing pet food to clients. It is an outside, under-canopy position. Team Leader: Susie Butcher
TRUCK AREA LOADER: THFTH brings a truck with boxes of food for distribution to clients. Volunteers direct arriving cars to the appropriate parking area and provide directions to the waiting area next to parking lot or to church entrance after 9:45. Will assist clients who must present a food ticket in exchange for a 20-25 lb. box of food to be placed in cars. A "B" on a food ticket indicates client is having a birthday so they are presented a "Birthday Box" and wished Happy Birthday in song by truck volunteers! We provide an information packet about Trinity Church, and anyone making a Profession of Faith during the counseling session is given some additional material and a Bible. Occasionally special items will be offered by THFTH or Trinity that you will take to their cars. This is an outside volunteer position in the parking lot. Dress appropriately for weather. VEGETABLE GARDEN: Assist in caring for vegetables grown for THFTH in the Big Canoe Community Garden just behind Dollar General on Steve Tate Highway from March thru November. Only required to water and check for pests and spray accordingly. Pick day and time to suit your schedule. Team Leaders: Nacine Norman and Margaret Campbell
Volunteers should arrive no later than 9:30.
Go to the Welcome Center, sign in, and pick up your name tag. Please return your name tag at the end of the day.
We gather for prayer before starting.
Between 11:00 and 12:30, you may leave your area for 30 minutes for lunch. When you decide to break, we will cover your area.
Water is provided all day for volunteers and will be at the coffee area off the narthex.
With 120 volunteers, you will not be volunteering every month. The typical need on distribution day is 50-55.
Wear comfortable shoes and clothes.
We conclude at 1:00 and gather for prayer before dismissing for tear down.
